Welcome to The Tablescaper. Thank you all for your good wishes throughout the fall out of Hurricane Sandy. The bottom line is that we are safe and that’s what counts.
We live in the center of Long Island, and as I write this post, midday Sunday from Target, we still do not have power or heat. We do have hot water so that is a blessing! My brother has a home on Eastern Long Island and they had about 6 inches of water in his home. That has been a chore, particularly without heat to dry it out.
Those around us are slowly getting power back. Our church got it back around 7 pm last night and so mass was full today!
A good friend of mine that has power held a party last night. It was a LOT of fun. We all plugged in our electronics around her home while she and her husband wined and dined us. We discussed the importance of socialization and how great it was to be together – with lights and heat!
Blogging is a mode of socialization too and with no power or internet, that is gone too!
My new friend is my French press coffee pot. As long as you can make hot water, you can have a decent cup of coffee. You learn a lot when you lose power. I learned I really need that morning cup of coffee!
Hope you and your families are fairing well. I long to be in a position to have power and internet and lose myself in the beauty of your homes and surroundings that you all generously share.
