Seasonal Sunday # 87 - Dish Storage

Seasonal Sunday Teapot copy

Welcome to Seasonal Sundays!

Anyone who has read my blog for any period of time, knows that I love dishes and I have a lot of dishes. When you have a large collection of anything, sometimes it can be a challenge to really use what you have. In order to help me use what I have, I have a very heavy duty pot stand in my kitchen which never holds pots! It holds dishes.

Dish Storage 066

This extra space enables me to bring up, from my basement dish room, a collection of dishes and put them to use. My family knows, this is the “go to” spot. These (whichever ones happen to be on the pot stand) are the ones to use. Of course my kitchen cabinets are filled to the brim with other dishes, but the pot stand really helps with seasonal ones.

Dish Storage 072

Along with being storage, it lends seasonal visual interest. I didn’t bring out all of my Valentine dishes, none of the red, as I decided this year I would work with the pink hues. On the bottom of the stand I have some white beaded plates which serve as a good base for a lot of my Valentine dishes. As I’m placing a different collection on the pot stand, I decide what I’ll need to make the collection work for every day use. Frequently it’s a solid color dinner plate to go with various plates of a collection. I dig those out and add them to the pot stand for easy access. I use the Chantal heart shaped baker as a serving dish.

Dish Storage 069

These little cuties were my Dollar Tree score for this season, which made their debut in this week’s tablescape which you can see HERE. These are the only new Valentine items I purchased this year.

Dish Storage 073

I use the solid beaded plates as a base for each level. This lends continuity and makes the entire display more pleasing to the eye. This level holds little inexpensive bakers from Michael’s purchased on clearance after Valentine’s Day, a couple of years ago. They could easily hold a muffin or a bit of salad.

Dish Storage 075

And the top spot holds beautiful white heart shaped dinner plates (and yes, one is chipped) along with a large pink serving bowl. Peaking out of the serving bowl are salad servers with little hearts on them. Along with a few other heart motif utensils I want to be sure to use.

Displaying a collection on my pot stand brings these items into play in our daily lives. It enables me to set (or have my children set) a great table every night with little effort. It helps me use what I have.

Do you have a special spot in your kitchen or dining room where you display seasonal plates and rotate them with the seasons? And, if for some reason you’re not already a Follower, please become one by clicking on the side bar. Thanks! I’m trying something new. InLinkz has an option that entries will appear in reverse time order, so the most recent link will be the first one showing. The last shall be first. I thought I’d give it a try. Tell me what you think.

I love your "plate" stand! I could use one, but my kitchen is already so full. I guess that's what happens when one has a china, crystal and silver addiction. I am sure you can understand ~ lol! Happy Valentine's Day and thank you for a wonderful party!!

I envy anyone who has a basement! We don't have them here in NE Texas :( We did build some window seats in the corner of our dining room for seasonal storage, and holiday goes to the attic in plastic tubs. It's a hassle to have to drag them up and down, but that's the price to pay for having lots of dishware! Thanks for hosting us again, and Happy Valentine's Day, Cheers, Andrea

What a terrific idea for extra storage that is also a display. No room in our small kitchen for one of these, but I do use our glass front cabinets to show off some seasonal dishes at times. Thanks for hosting. Stay warm! ~ Sarah

i think it is a great idea to display your "go to" dishes for each event/holiday for your family to enjoy. A great rack to display all of your beautiful dishes..I love it!

Happy Valentines Day to you and your family!

Whew! I made it! Just got checked into my home away from home for 4 or 5 days...have my ice and a comfy chair and ottoman! Ready for a little rest.

Linking my Seasonal Sunday post! Didn't think that would happen this week. I am grateful for a little diversion.:-)

Thanks so much for hosting!

How in the world do you keep someone from running into that stand? Even someone in the dark, sneaking in for a snack? It sure does look great though!Good organizational thought too!

Michele @ The Nest at Finch Rest said...

That's truly brilliant. What a GREAT idea!

If I didn't KNOW my kitty would knock them down in a NY minute I would consider it.....great use of space.

Thank you for a wonderful link party.

This is a nifty idea. :) I can't resist pink, so I love those pink Valentine dishes. It all looks very festive displayed on your pot stand.

At the moment, I don't have a place in my kitchen to display seasonal dishes. I am fortunate to have two china cabinets, though, and that helps out a lot.

Thank you for hosting and Happy Seasonal Sunday.

I like how you bring up seasonal dishes and use the pot rack! I don't have room in my kitchen for something like that but I do have a bakers rack in my breakfast noon I might start using a shelf for plates! Thanks for hosting!

That's a great idea. I'm going to do something like that on a smaller scale.

I love it, but I really don't have room for it. Maybe in the pantry room off the kitchen. Hmm, but then I would have to move it to get the step stool, which I need to reach my cabinets that go to the ceiling. I know, I'll do an addition! :)

Love your idea of using the pot holder for plates! I found a home in a new kitchen cabinet for some of my plates, into the light from the darkness, lol, they now get used. Love the heart shapes, on my list for next year! Like your idea of the last to first in the link up, something different. Thanks, Pam

I love your 'plate stand'. Wish I had room for one. Love it that you use it for your seasonal dishes, what a great idea! Love all those pretty pink dishes! Yay! I linked up to your party and was #1. Well, I'll be there till someone else links! Pretty cool.
Have a beautiful Sunday and you're always a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Genius idea, the pot stand. I looked at something similar in Williams-Sonoma, but I have nowhere to put it in my kitchen. I do have a cabinet near the sink that I rotate seasonal dishes in and out. Right now the Christmas ones are still there! (I am a little behind.)

Thanks for hosting as always. You have a gorgeous kitchen!

What a creative way to display your dishes using that lovely pot stand. Occasionally, I'll take a special dish and display it on a plate stand on the counter.

Thanks again, for hosting Seasonal Sunday and I'm already a follower.

Hi Alma...Well I thought my link ups didn't go through so retried it. I forgot AGAIN that it goes to the top and I was looking at the bottom. To be honest I really like it the old the end.

When I first started blogging you had just put up about how you organized your things in your basement. I was SO impressed with all that you had done. It really made me re-evaluate my dish storage. Thanks to you I converted an entire closet to it. And it sure has helped with all the entertaining I do. So THANKYOU for that. You are one of the blogs that inspired me to start a blog. And I so appreciate it. I love blogging. I don't know if you really realize the great example you are to others and the influence you have on so many. I know I'm not the only one who has been inspired by you.

Thankyou my dear new friend,

I love that stand where you have those gorgeous heart shape dishes. I'm loving where you place it in your beautiful kitchen. Thank hyou for hosting lovely lady and having me. I'm visiting my daughter in another town, 4 hrs. away, so I haven't been home to do another table, but I will as soon as I get home. I'm sad as I just read from a couple of blog friends that Whitney Huston has died! Happy Valentine's.

Much as I love this idea, I would be so afraid of dropping plates on my tile floor and seeing them smashed into smithereens. I'm a bit of a klutz, I'm afraid, plus, we're on a slab! Thanks for hosting the party.
Glad I could link up this week.

What beautiful heart dishes you have! Here I've searched high and low this year for them and not to be found, so no hope of finding bargains after V Day...Yours are beautiful! Yes, I rotate too, in the china cabinet and kitchen cabinets, but I certainly don't have the extensive collection you have. But I too, like changing with the seasons. Thanks for hosting!

What a fun way to display! I am afraid my grands would knock the whole thing over! I display them seasonally on my baking cabinet. I agree, then you use them more or can get the kids to set the table with them more.

Ok, tonight I am loving the reverse order. I thought it wasn't posting me and I had not been able to post until after 11:30 my time so I opened you up again and there I was at the top! Worked for me tonight. Guess it would be good to trade off.

Hi Honey!
Thank you for this peek into your GORGEOUS kitchen! I covet your stove, BIG TIME!!!!!
The pot stand is a wonderful idea & I bet it makes emptying the dishwasher pretty easy, too.

My bakers rack is my seasonal display area along with a corner of my bar counter. I've really enjoyed changing them for each holiday or season. I think my grands get a kick out of seeing whats new at Nana's house, too. Of course, there is always CANDY somewhere in the display, so that helps. LOL

p.s. makes no difference to me how we link up...I try real hard to visit everybody at the party!

That is a fantastic stand! I love the way you are using it and that your family knows these are the dishes to use. That's a great way to rotate and actually use many of the dishes in your collection. I do not have anything quite like this but do have a two tiered stand and side table that I sometimes use for displays of dishes. My family usually just grabs dishes out of one cabinet in particular. I saw those glasses at DT too and wanted to get them but didn't because I am running out of cabinet space for glassware. LOL! Going to see your tablescape with them now. Have a great day!

Oh how I wish I had room for a seasonal dish rack in my kitchen but better yet, a basement dish room!! I'll be on the look out for more Sylar plates and let you know if I find any! Thanks for having me this week :)

What a neat idea to keep dishes on display for every day use. I'm afraid that in my kitchen, it would be knocked over in seconds flat by one of two doggies running around my kitchen!

Hey there!

I love your pot/plate holder - I need to look for one. Like you, I have isles of dishes in the basement. But, unlike you, I tend to forget about them unless we're having a special event - I grab the easy to reach white dishes in the cabinet. You've given me a new reason to shop - yay!

I too have such a love for dishes! I have a large 4 tiered bowl stand that I change out for all of the holidays and seasons. It is very similar to yours, but not as heavy duty. I don't dare stack alot of plates on it. I have put a bowl and pitcher on the bottom rack. I also have to different counter top plate racks. A girl can never have too many plats. lol! My cupboards are filled with seasonal dishes. I try to resist buying new, but it doesn't always work. I love your assortment of Valentines dish decor. I have some of the same little ruffly mini hearts. Thanks for inviting me to link up. I am putting your party button on my sidebar. Happy Seasonal Sunday!
