Where do you keep it all?

white where do you keep
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year! A little over a year ago I was pouring over the beautiful posts of Susan from Between Naps on the Porch and trying to figure out how the heck to put a blog together. Man, have I learned a lot! I never could have done it without the support of my entire family and the technical help of my eldest daughter. Now my son has been helping on the technical front too.
There is no doubt that the question I am asked the most is, “Where do you keep it all?” As my blogiversary (June 2, 2010) approached I thought what could be more fitting than to hold a party, a meme, (MY FIRST) in celebration of my blogiversary entitled, “Where do you keep it all?”
Copy of IMG_2390
Like many of you, I keep some of my china, crystal and treasures in my china cabinet. My husband and I purchased this one a few years ago in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary.
Of course my kitchen cabinets are chock full.
Copy of IMG_2572
Some are pretty…
Copy of IMG_2570
…and some are not.
But, the place where I have my biggest stash is in my basement…

…behind this door, is a little room filled to over the top!
Now don’t be scared.  Nothing is going to fall on you. I straightened things up for the big day.
I try to keep things sorted by color.
Sometimes that just doesn’t quite work.
Someone thought the photo for my button was from a restaurant supply. No, just my basement, but these shelves are for restaurants and can hold up to 300 pounds per shelf!
There is a section for candles…
…and candle stick holders or hurricanes.
But the truth is, there is NEVER enough room. So things have spilled over into other parts of the basement.
A stash of glassware (which is completely  full).
And then…
IMG_5025 IMG_5026 IMG_5027 IMG_5030

…there’s another cabinet for seasonal dishes.
But, my favorite place to store dishes is in plain site!
This is my master bathroom and where I store and get to admire my Limoges collection. (I couldn’t figure how to take this photo without getting the camera in it. I put it on the timer at least it’s just the camera and not me too!)
I had a contractor add extra support to the top of the cabinetry to hold it all safely.
It’s mostly Limoges, but there’s a bit of Bavarian smattered in there.
Check out the bowl on the floor for the furry babies!
This sugar bowl was part of my grandmother’s toy tea set when she was a little girl.
And yes, there’s more, but I think that’s enough for one day. Now I want to see where  YOU keep it all?
After you link up, I’d really love to have you leave a comment.

I’ve had so much fun hosting this meme that I thought it would be fun to host one weekly. I’m calling it SUMMER SUNDAYS and it’s all about what summer means to YOU.
It could be boating, the shore or the lake; a barbeque or a picnic; a pool or a patio; great food or flowers; flip flops or a hammock or whatever SUMMER means to YOU!
Hope you’ll join us Sunday, June 6th. Although it’s not officially the start of Summer, once Memorial Day is here, it sure feels like summer. So grab the button and come join us!

OMG!!!!!!!!! You must have every dish that has been sold in your area. I thought I had a lot but you put me to shame. What a dream it would be to shop at your house. I saw so many things that I was gasping at and wanted to reach through the screen and grab.

You are one lucky good.

Amaaaaaazing! I could just spend hours in your dish room. It's all so beautiful. It's a good thing I've downsized to this itty bitty cottage with NO basement or attic! I can't wait to visit all the dish rooms of the plate addicts joining your blog.
Thanks so much for your wonderful posts and now your great blog parties.

I am blown away, I just love it. Congrats on your organizational skills, you are the master. Great post and blog. Thanks for sharing.

Mid-Atlantic Martha said...

Oh my! This is all so wonderful! I'm loving seeing where everyone keeps their china and knowing I'm not the only one! They're upstairs in two bedroom closets - dresser drawers have been overtaken with tablecloths and placemats, in the tv cabinet, under beds, under furniture -- and I'm getting pie safe for even more storage (this in addition to every kitchen cabinet). Now, it seems, I need to add a basement! Oh yes, I also use the trunk too -- this is all just too delightful!

Sarah said...

Happy 1st Anniversary! And what a great party you've hosted here. Loved seeing all this storage. We have the same shelves in the attic, but I don't think I have near the dishes you do. You are so organized. Summer for me may be a new project: get the dishes organized. I like how you've organized by color and object. Thanks for sharing these ideas. ~ Sarah

Congrats! I never understood just how tablescapers create such wonderful venues. Now I understand where the creativity is inspired -your dishes! As I view the links, I see them stacked and sorted and jumbled and just waiting, begging to be pulled out for that special setting. They are lovely and they call to us. I may just have to try tablescaping! :-) Thanks for hosting!

Good lord...I had no idea any ONE person would have this many dishes. Just amazing. And your storage is awesome. To have a large DISH ROOM should be a law for every house built. :)))

I meant to play in your meme but time just ran out for me...getting things done before we leave in the morning for our cruise has been a weeks task.
I am looking forward to your Sundays, tho and will participate in it when we get back home.

I especially love your bathroom and the mirror with all the dishes displayed over it. I love having my collections out in the open as well...but there's just not enough room.

I so wanted to participate in this but I didn't get it all together in time (was under the weather the few days leading up to your big event).

Anyway, I have had so much fun looking at everyone's china collections.

So, Missy........I'm sitting here waiting for my husband to get off work in this sleepy little town where he's filling in for a doctor today, and I start cleaning out my email Inbox. I get just about all the way to the end, and what do I see but an email alert from Creative Journeys re: her blog post that I just so happened to save. It was from June 4, 2011 which was the day after all that horrible stuff happened in Savannah. I was out of pocket for a month or more after that, still reeling, unpacking, and trying to make sense of things. But, geez...now I find out that YOU had a party on that day entitled "Where do you keep it all?" I come over to your blog, look at your 6-4-11 post, then swing by this one to peek in. THEN I go back to my post from last week to see your comment on MY post. Bottom line: NO YOU DIDN'T!!!! :-) :-) :-) Love always, Alycia

I decided to revisit this post because, quite sadly, I lost my mother in February and am beginning to bring a lot of her dishes and things that dad won't use to my house. Naturally I cannot part with a thing, but do need to find places to store everything. First of all, I am in AWE of your bathroom. Secondly, your creativity has no bounds! It never would have occurred to me to store dishes in a bathroom, but you now have me looking at mine in an entirely new way. I do believe that my Fitz & Floyd "Cape Tow" would go perfectly in my master bath. Now to figure out the shelving. Thanks, Alma!

Thank you for all the fun and inspiration shared here!
